Love cats and want to draw one? You’re in the right place! In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through an easy step-by-step guide to draw a cute cat from scratch. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking for a relaxing drawing session, grab a pencil and let’s start sketching!
✏️ What You’ll Need
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Drawing paper
- Fine liner or marker (optional)
- Colored pencils or crayons (optional)
Step 1: Draw a Circle for the Head
Start by drawing a medium-sized circle near the top center of your paper. This will be your cat’s head. Don’t worry about perfection—just a simple light circle works!

Step 2: Add the Body
Below the head, draw a larger oval or a U-shape for the body. Connect it to the head gently. This will be the main part of the cat’s body.

Step 3: Sketch the Ears
Draw two triangle shapes on top of the head for the ears. Round the tips slightly to make them cute and cat-like.

Step 4: Draw the Face
Inside the head, draw two big round eyes. Add a small upside-down triangle for the nose in the center. Under the nose, draw a small curved line for the mouth. Add two whiskers on each side!

Step 5: Add the Legs
For the front legs, draw two straight lines down from the body, with small ovals at the bottom for the paws. For the back legs, add curved shapes to the sides of the body.

Step 6: Draw the Tail
On one side of the body, draw a long curved tail. You can make it fluffy, curled, or straight depending on your cat’s personality!

Step 7: Outline Your Drawing
Use a black pen or fine liner to trace over your final lines. Once the ink is dry, erase the pencil marks gently.

Step 8: Color Your Cat!
Time to get creative! You can color your cat however you like—tabby stripes, black and white, or a ginger kitty with green eyes!

Final Tips 🎨
- Use reference photos of real cats if you want a realistic look.
- Don’t be afraid to personalize your drawing—add a collar, bow, or background!
- Practice makes perfect. Try drawing cats in different poses once you’ve mastered this one!
